Frantz Zephirin’s New Life, 2022: A Mystical Birth Beneath the Leaves

Haiti Collection Privée invites you into the visionary world of Frantz Zephirin, where the visible and invisible seem to breathe through the same canvas. In New Life, 2022, Zephirin creates a scene that feels part jungle, part dream, part spiritual doorway. Before seeing it, imagine a night alive with hidden eyes, tall leaves opening like sacred curtains, and a glowing center where birth, spirit, and mystery gather in one radiant moment.

A Sacred Chamber of Green, Fire, and Spirit

The painting unfolds like a secret ceremony taking place deep within an enchanted tropical forest. On both sides, lush green leaves rise in tall, protective columns, their veins drawn with delicate lines that make them feel almost human—like guardians standing watch. Between them, thin curling vines in yellow, red, blue, orange, and pale green twist upward, each dotted with small eye-like circles. These dotted tendrils give the forest an alert, living presence, as though nature itself is watching the miracle at the center.

At the heart of the composition is an oval form, almost like a cosmic womb or sacred seed. Inside it, a red figure appears suspended, folded and luminous, suggesting an unborn being, a spirit child, or a life force waiting to emerge. The surrounding oval is filled with small circular markings, giving it the feeling of an ancient vessel, a decorated egg, or a portal between worlds.

Beneath this central form, a white burst of light radiates outward from a small flame rising over water. The flame is simple but powerful: yellow, orange, and red, standing upright like a candle of creation. Around it, rings ripple across the dark surface, suggesting that this birth is not only physical but spiritual—an event whose energy moves outward into the surrounding world.

Above and around the central womb-like image, mysterious blue and green figures appear. One blue figure stands at the top like a small spirit or guardian, solemn and watchful. A green figure leans from the side, half-hidden in the smoky atmosphere, as though witnessing the arrival of new life. In the upper right corner, a large blue face peers down from the darkness with vivid red eyes, adding a powerful sense of divine observation. The moon in the upper left completes the dreamlike balance, turning the scene into a nighttime ritual of renewal.

The colors are intense but controlled: deep greens dominate the natural world, while red and yellow mark the force of birth, fire, and transformation. The composition feels symmetrical, almost altar-like, with the central image framed by leaves and spirits. There is both beauty and unease here—an emotional tension between protection and mystery, emergence and the unknown.

In New Life, 2022, Zephirin seems to suggest that creation is never ordinary. Life arrives watched by ancestors, spirits, nature, and the cosmos. It comes through darkness, through fire, through water, and through the hidden intelligence of the natural world.
